Southern Thailand sees steady recovery as travel services resume across key destinations

The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) reported on 30 November that weather conditions across Southern Thailand have continued to improve, allowing many destinations to return to normal operations. Airports throughout the region are functioning as usual, and transportation services are gradually resuming across several provinces.

TAT’s Tourism Crisis Monitoring Centre (TCMC) remains active, working closely with provincial authorities, foreign consulates, and tourism operators to ensure assistance for affected travellers and provide timely updates. In addition, the Immigration Bureau has introduced a temporary exemption of overstay penalties for foreign visitors unable to depart due to flooding in eight southern provinces, covering permitted stays expiring between 20 November and 31 December 2025.

While floodwater and strong waves persist in some areas—including Songkhla, Satun, Phatthalung, Narathiwat, Yala, and Pattani—road access and public transportation are being restored. Several national parks and waterfall attractions remain closed for safety inspections.

Major destinations such as Phuket, Phang Nga, Krabi, and Ranong continue to operate normally, with all airports and tourist services unaffected. Travel activity in Surat Thani, the Samui archipelago, and Chumphon is recovering, with marine transport subject to weather-related adjustments. Travellers are advised to check updated schedules but can generally proceed with their travel plans.

Southern Thailand Flood Update: Travel Largely Operational as Authorities Manage Local Disruptions – Updated 27 November 2025, 08:00 (GMT+7)

Heavy rainfall and localised flooding continue to affect parts of Southern Thailand, resulting in temporary transport disruptions and safety-related closures at selected natural attractions. Despite these challenges, the majority of major tourist destinations remain accessible, and airports across the region continue operating with only minor delays.

The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has activated the Tourism Crisis Monitoring Centre (TCMC) to coordinate with provincial authorities, consulates, and sector partners. The centre is providing up-to-date travel information and traveller assistance as conditions evolve. Visitors are advised to exercise caution in flooded areas, allow extra travel time, and follow official guidance when heading to airports, piers, or bus terminals.

Flood impacts continue in provinces such as Songkhla (Hat Yai), Nakhon Si Thammarat, Trang, Satun, Phatthalung, Narathiwat, Yala, and Pattani, where public transport suspensions, road closures, and temporary shutdowns of national parks, waterfalls, and marine attractions have been implemented.

Conversely, Phuket, Krabi, Phang-nga, Ranong, and Chumphon remain fully open to travellers, with tourism services operating normally. Destinations in Surat Thani— including Ko Samui, Ko Pha-ngan, and Ko Tao— also continue to welcome visitors, with ferry schedules adjusted only where required by weather conditions.

Rail services on the Southern Line have been partially suspended, with 22 long-distance and local trains temporarily halted and several others rerouted. Interprovincial bus operations have also been paused on selected routes due to road conditions. Travellers are encouraged to check official updates frequently and plan journeys accordingly.

Thailand to Temporarily Lift Afternoon Alcohol Sales Ban from Early December for Six‑Month Trial

The Thai government announced it will lift the ban on alcohol sales between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. starting in early December, in a six‑month pilot programme intended to ease pressure from public and business backlash following the new Alcoholic Beverage Control Act.

Health Minister Pattana Promphat explained the decision, saying the trial is necessary to carefully evaluate the social, economic and health impacts of extended alcohol‑sale windows.

From 8 November, the amended law introduced penalties of at least 10,000 baht for individuals drinking or being served during prohibited hours—marking a significant shift from prior legislation that targeted only sellers.

The pilot programme is expected to begin around 1 December, following a 15‑day public consultation. Provincial alcohol‑control committees will monitor outcomes, while existing zoning restrictions and the midnight sales ban remain unchanged.
