From 27 November to 7 December 2025, Kanchanaburi province hosts the renowned River Kwai Bridge Week & Red Cross Fair, held on the banks of the historic Bridge on the River Kwai under the theme “The Light of Remembrance and Eternal Loyalty”.

On 4 and 5 December, the usual show is replaced by a royal Khon performance and the classical play Sang Thong. The event not only honors wartime memory but also aims to boost cultural tourism and support local economies — attendees are advised to book accommodation in advance.

Road Collapse Hits Northern Bangkok Amid Heavy Rain, Repairs Completed Same Day

On the morning of 11 November 2025, a section of Prachauthit Road in Don Mueang district, northern Bangkok, collapsed. No vehicles or pedestrians fell into the hole, and no injuries were reported.

The incident occurred near a curve at Soi 21, and local officials indicate that several days of heavy rain likely eroded the soil beneath the pavement, triggering ground subsidence.

Inspectors from the district office began work at 09:30 and declared the site repaired by midday. Traffic has since returned to normal.

District authorities stated that they have inspected adjacent roads for safety but will continue to issue reminders and monitor conditions during future rainfall.

Thailand Announces Five-Day New Year Holiday to Boost Tourism and Domestic Economy

The Thai government has officially designated a five-day holiday period for the 2025–2026 New Year season, introducing a special holiday on Friday, January 2. The decision aims to stimulate domestic tourism and support economic recovery across the country.

Under the new arrangement, the New Year holiday will run from Wednesday, December 31, to Sunday, January 4. This includes the regular New Year holidays, the newly added special holiday on January 2, and the following weekend. The measure is part of the government’s ongoing approach of creating long weekend clusters to encourage internal travel and consumption.

The Prime Minister’s Office described the policy as “a strategic step to enhance mobility among domestic travelers and increase demand in accommodation, transportation, retail, and related sectors.” The Ministry of Tourism and Sports added that the extended holiday would “support local businesses still recovering from global economic headwinds.”

However, the special holiday on January 2 is not mandatory for private companies. Each business may decide independently whether to close, and the Department of Labour has advised employees to confirm details with their HR departments or management. Major banks are expected to close nationwide. Meanwhile, discussions on amendments to labour laws toward a standardized two‑day weekend continue, although Saturdays remain working days for many companies.

The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) plans to roll out promotional campaigns tied to the extended holiday, including special travel packages and holiday events in major cities.

Bangkok Airways Opens New Lounge at Don Mueang Airport — Enhancing Services for Growing Samui Route Demand

Bangkok Airways has officially opened a new passenger lounge at Don Mueang Airport (DMK), strengthening its ground services as demand rises for its Don Mueang–Samui Island flights. Although the airline’s primary hub remains Suvarnabhumi Airport, the carrier currently operates three daily round-trip flights between Don Mueang and Samui.

Designed under the concept “Whisper of the Ocean,” the new facility features a relaxed, resort‑inspired interior with soft lighting and ocean‑themed elements. The lounge area is separated into two zones: the Blue Ribbon Club Lounge for business‑class passengers and FlyerBonus Premier members, and the Boutique Lounge for economy‑class passengers.

Both lounges provide light snacks, beverages, coffee, and complimentary Wi‑Fi, offering travelers a comfortable place to relax before their flight. The facility is located near Gates 50–56 in the domestic terminal and is open daily from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

With travel to Samui continuing to rebound, the new lounge is expected to further reinforce Bangkok Airways’ premium positioning on its key island routes.

Thai Rice Output Soars But Exports Lag

Thailand’s Office of Agricultural Economics (OAE) forecasts that the main‑crop rice harvest for 2025/26 will hit its peak in November at around 17.375 million tons. This record output is exerting downward pressure on domestic prices, with Ayutthaya‑region paddy (15% moisture) falling from 6,300‑6,700 THB/ton in late September to 6,200‑6,600 THB/ton by late October.

Despite the bumper harvest, exports are weakening. Thailand’s Rice Exporters Association reports that September shipments dropped 15.6% year‑on‑year to 762,582 tons, while the January‑September total of 5.799 million tons was down 23.1%. The decline is attributed to a surge in global supply driven by India’s resumption of exports and a stronger baht reducing competitiveness.

On the cost side, Vietnam’s benchmark 5 % broken rice trades at around USD 595/ton (≈THB 19,245), narrowing the gap with Thai rice and intensifying competition. Meanwhile, the Philippines has announced a January 2026 one‑month import window of 300,000 tons, re‑imposing a ban in 2‑4 Q, adding further uncertainty.

Looking ahead, analysts warn that the heavy harvest could keep prices depressed for up to two years unless weather disruptions, such as a possible El Niño, curb output. The OAE highlights both the risk of supply glut and potential future weather shocks.
