Thai police tighten entry of illegal foreigners into Thailand

The Thai police have begun to tighten immigration screening for foreigners entering Thailand for illegal activities such as illegal employment. The Thai Immigration Bureau and the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs are working together to establish a new system to screen the information of those seeking entry before they arrive at the airport.

From May 1, 2025, the Thai Immigration Bureau has launched a new digital immigration system, the Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC). This involves submitting an arrival card online before traveling. The information in the TDAC will be compared with data from embassies in each country, making it possible to identify people who are on blacklists or are under surveillance. This will allow foreigners who may be involved in the recent stricter immigration system to be removed at the border.

Those who are subject to the stricter immigration control will also be included in the immigration screening for those entering Thailand on tourist or student visas, and measures will be strengthened against those who attempt to enter the country on tourist or student visas for the purpose of illegal employment.

Tracking investigations will be carried out as necessary after entry, and intensive surveillance will be carried out in entertainment districts in Bangkok, such as Sukhumvit Road, the Nana district, and Soi Cowboy, where foreigners are suspected to be involved.

Robinhood takes over Foodpanda's business

Foodpanda, a German delivery hero that was scheduled to end its food delivery service in Thailand on May 23, will be taken over by fellow company Robinhood. The contract, signed on May 20, is effective immediately, and the transfer of customer, delivery staff, employees, and company information is already underway.

Purple Ventures, which operates Robinhood, was originally a subsidiary of SCBX, a financial holding company affiliated with the Thai royal family, and the app was released by Siam Commercial Bank (SCB). Purple Ventures was sold to an investor group led by Yip Insoi, which handles IT-related businesses, in September 2024. As with Foodpanda, a buyer was found just before the service was scheduled to end (July 2024). In Thailand, it is also pronounced "Robin Hood."

Robinhood's app plans to improve its English language support in anticipation of foreign users, and to expand its service to rural areas by the end of the year.
