The Ministry of Tourism and Sports (MOTS) of Thailand has released statistics on the number of foreign visitors to Thailand in May 2025.
According to data released by MOTS, the number of foreign visitors to Thailand in May 2025 was 2,266,574. This is a significant decrease of 280,542 people from April, which was 2,547,116 people.
The number of visitors decreased by approximately 589,000 from January to February, approximately 399,000 from February to March, approximately 173,000 from March to April, and approximately 280,000 from April to May, resulting in a sharp decrease of approximately 1.44 million people in four months. What stands out is the sharp decrease in tourists from countries that once attracted many tourists to Thailand, such as China, Vietnam, Hong Kong, South Korea, and Malaysia. Compared to the same month last year, the number of tourists from countries that had been popular travelers to Thailand in 2024 has dropped sharply, including China - 45%, Vietnam - 41%, Hong Kong - 36%, Laos - 29%, South Korea - 27%, Taiwan - 20%, and Malaysia - 12%. Thailand's economy is also currently in a rather sluggish state. We sincerely hope that the number of tourists from overseas will increase from June, revitalizing Thailand's tourism industry and helping the Thai economy improve.
