The National Statistics Office (NSO) of the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society of Thailand is conducting the first census in 15 years from April 1, 2025. The survey results will be used to plan and improve policies related to welfare, education, and infrastructure, and to address trends such as aging, declining birth rates, labor shortages, and an increase in foreigners.
In Thailand, the census is normally conducted every 10 years, but the last one was in 2010. The response rate in the previous census was only 14%, but this time, the census is expected to be 50%, with more responses expected due to online use.
A budget of 400 million baht will be allocated for the census. The census will be conducted online from April 1 to 20. From the 21st to the final day of the survey on June 21, face-to-face surveys will be conducted in remote areas and areas with poor internet access, and more than 40,000 employees of the post office (national postal service Thailand Post) will be mobilized. This year, the LGBTQ+ population will also be surveyed.
AI and big data technologies will be used to compile the report, and the results (final report) are scheduled to be announced between October and December.
