On November 25, the Automotive Division of the Federation of Thai Industries (FTI) announced that it would lower its production target as domestic sales and exports of automobiles remain sluggish. The target number of domestic automobiles will be lowered from 550,000 to 450,000, and the target number of exports will be lowered from 1.15 million to 1.05 million, for a total of 1.7 million to 1.5 million. However, FTI also lowered its initial target of 1.9 million to 1.7 million in July of this year.
Production volume in October 2024 was 118,842 units, down 25.1% from the same month last year, and 1,246,868 units from January to October, down 19.2% from the same period last year.
Domestic (new car) sales in October were 37,691 units, down 36% from the same month last year, the lowest figure in 54 months since the lockdown was lifted in May 2021. Sales in January-October were 476,350 units, down 26.2% from the same period last year. The main reason for the decline in sales is thought to be that financial institutions have tightened their loan screening, making it difficult for people who want to take out car loans to purchase cars.
Exports in October were 84,334 units, down 20.2% from the same month last year, and 853,221 units from January-October, down 8% from the same period last year. The slump in exports is thought to be mainly due to the impact of Russia's invasion of Ukraine and the worsening situation in the Middle East on international logistics.

The Thai government, in coordination with six airlines, is preparing to take measures to deal with the expected surge in air travel for the 2024-2025 New Year holiday season.
As one of the specific measures, 247 additional flights (73,388 additional seats) will be added to popular domestic routes from December 26, 2024 to January 5, 2025.
The Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT) has also been tasked with monitoring airfare trends to prevent price hikes during peak periods and ensure affordability. Passengers are advised to book tickets through the airline's official website to ensure prices are within CAAT's regulatory caps and to avoid possible overcharging from third-party platforms. Complaints regarding price violations can be submitted through CAAT's complaint portal.
Currently, air travel is down 25% compared to pre-COVID-19 levels. To combat this, airlines such as Thai Airways, Bangkok Airways and Thai AirAsia are increasing flight frequency and deploying larger aircraft to popular destinations such as Chiang Mai, Phuket, Khon Kaen and Hat Yai. Thai Airways alone has added more than 25,000 seats to key destinations.
Airports across Thailand will extend their operating hours to accommodate the additional flights, especially during peak travel periods on 27-28 December 2024 and 1-2 January 2025.
Travelers are also encouraged to arrive at the airport early and stay up to date on flight schedules to minimize disruptions.

The bicycle lane installed by the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration on Sukhumvit Road Soi 39 and put into operation on November 19th caused traffic congestion and had to be reviewed after only one day. The traffic congestion was not only on Soi 39, but also on 17 major roads, including Petchaburi Road, Thonglor Road (Sukhumvit Road Soi 55), Ekkamai Road (Sukhumvit Road Soi 63), and the distant Pattanakarn Road.
Bangkok Governor Chachart Sittiphan immediately apologized, removed the poles and returned them to their original positions to allow cars to pass, while making the lane shared with pedestrians and cyclists. The lane was installed in collaboration with several embassies in Thailand and foreign experts, but the narrowing of the existing roadway worsened traffic congestion, and there were few pedestrians or cyclists, with it being used exclusively by motorbikes.
