Thailand's Office of Basic Education Commission (OBEC) considers canceling on-site classes on extremely hot days
Thailand's Office of Basic Education Commission (OBEC) has asked school authorities to consider canceling on-site classes on extremely hot days to protect the health and safety of students and teachers.
OBEC Secretary-General Thanu Wongchinda said the committee wanted to apply this to all schools under its jurisdiction, as very hot weather is expected in the northern, northeastern, central and eastern regions, especially in early May.
The committee also suggests moving from on-site classes to online classes during extremely hot days to maintain continuity of education without putting health at risk.
Recent social media posts have suggested that Bangkok could experience up to 80 days of extreme heat a year by May. The urgent need for adaptation measures in educational settings is highlighted.
