Chinese tourist arrivals to Thailand soar but not yet back to pre-pandemic levels
Thailand's transport authority reports a sharp increase in the number of flights from China to Thailand, but the numbers are still below pre-pandemic levels.
According to Thai Airways Radio (AEROTHAI), a total of 12,805 flights were operated between Thailand and China from October 2022 to April 2023, a 98% increase compared to the same period last year. Due to the abolition of the zero-COVID-19 policy in China, the number of flights connecting China and Thailand has increased sharply.
AEROTHAI expects more flights from China in the coming months, adding that more than 7,000 flights are expected in July, August and September 2023. However, the total number of flights between Thailand and China from October 2022 to September 2023 is expected to exceed 46,000, still 66% less than the same period in 2019.

Thailand entered rainy season on Monday 22nd May 2023
The Thai Meteorological Department has reported that Thailand officially started its rainy season on Monday, May 22, 2023.
Precipitation is expected to be 5% below the seasonal average, with more heavy rains expected in August and September 2023, with the rains expected to cease in mid-October.
The Meteorological Department of Thailand has also warned about the possibility of floods and landslides during this period. Residents and tourists in Thailand are advised to plan their activities and remember to bring a raincoat and an umbrella.
Thai Airways turns profitable with 3.7-fold revenue growth in January-March 2023 period
Thai Airways International, which is undergoing business restructuring due to the application of business reorganization proceedings from 2020, posted a 271.2% year-on-year increase in sales to 41.51 billion baht in the January-March 2023 financial results, and operating income was 13.03 billion baht. The final profit and loss turned into the black of 12.51 billion baht. In the same period last year, the operating profit was 3.17 billion baht and the net loss was 3.25 billion baht.
From January to March 2023, the number of passengers reached 3.52 million, an increase of 245% compared to the same period of the previous year, due to the lifting of restrictions on movement as a countermeasure against the COVID-19 infection and the recovery of foreign tourists.
Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) Announces 'Workation Thailand for only 100 baht' Campaign
The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has announced the launch of the campaign 'Workation Thailand for only 100 baht'. The campaign aims to revitalize domestic travel by providing tourism products and services at affordable prices and to promote weekday stays.
A list of services available for promotion will be posted on the official TAT website.
As part of the campaign, TAT will distribute 100 baht vouchers that can be redeemed for various tourism-related goods and services. These vouchers will be available on select dates 6 June, 7 July, 8 August and 9 September 2023.
Workation is an office work model that allows employees to work remotely from anywhere by using online meetings. "Workation Thailand for only 100 baht" campaign is expected to support the tourism industry by providing benefits and discounts at major facilities to travelers, especially digital nomads and their remote workers, and revitalizing workation.
