Thailand's immigration scheme Test & Go expands to entry by sea and cruise ship
Thailand is currently allowed to enter without quarantine by the Test & Go scheme, but this scheme is limited to air and land entry.

Thai authorities have begun to consider extending this Test & Go scheme to entry by sea (including rivers).

The expansion plan will begin with allowing entry by sea from Laos to tour groups passing through the First Friendship Bridge. This First Friendship Bridge spans Mekong and connects Laos and Nong Khai of Thailand .

Tourists arriving by sea take the first test on board and the second test at the hospital in Thailand. Both tests are based on RT-PCR and follow the same procedure as when entering Thailand by air. Also, when entering the country by sea, it is necessary to obtain a Thailand Pass as well as by air.

Thai authorities will announce more details on Friday, February 25th.

Currently, Thailand's tourism industry has been severely damaged, and in order to revive the tourism industry, the Thai government tourism sector is demanding a complete reopening of the country in March 2022.

Yellow Line and Pink Line in Bangkok might be delayed its open
The new railways Yellow Line and Pink Line, which are currently under construction in Bangkok, were originally scheduled to open in mid-2022, but It is reported that due to construction delays, opening may be delayed next year.

According to the Bangkok Mass Transit System (BTSC), which manages the new railway, construction of the Yellow Line and Pink Line has been delayed due to problems in procuring construction materials.

The main reason for the delay in procuring construction materials is that the pandemic that has disrupted the world over the past two years has taken longer than expected to deal with imports of construction materials from other countries. At the moment, BTSC is requesting a delay of 677 days and is aiming for opening by the end of 2022, but the worst estimate is that opening may be postponed until 2023.

The opening of the Yellow and Pink lines will significantly improve the convenience of transportation in Bangkok. It is hoped to open as soon as possible.

Official name of Bangkok changed to "Krung Thep Maha Nakhon"
For foreigners, the name of the capital of Thailand is Bangkok, but almost all Thais call Bangkok "Krung Thep Maha Nakhon".

The official name of Bangkok is
Krungthepmahanakhon Amonrattanakosin Mahintharayutthaya Mahadilokphop Noppharatratchathaniburirom Udomratchaniwetmahasathan Amonphimanawatansathit Sakkathattiyawitsanukamprasit.

This means "City of angels, great city of immortals, magnificent city of the nine gems, seat of the king, city of royal palaces, home of gods incarnate, erected by Vishvakarman at Indra’s behest." However, the names "Krung Thep" and "Krung Thep Maha Nakhon" are short abbreviations of this official name.

The name "Bangkok" has been used since November 2001 and is derived from the old areas' name of the capital known as Bangkok Noi and Bangkok Yai.

In recent years, Thailand’s Office of the Royal Society has requested that the English name of Bangkok be changed from "Bangkok" to "Krung Thep Maha Nakhon", and on February 15, the Thai Cabinet approved this request. As the result, the official English name of Bangkok has become "Krung Thep Maha Nakhon".

However, this change is a only the change of the official name in the official text of the government etc., and in daily life "Bangkok" can still be used officially.
