Thailand to start introducing 300 baht entry fee for foreign tourists in June
The Thai government is currently planning to collect an entry fee (tourism tax) of 300 baht for foreign tourists upon entry. Initially, the introduction of entry fee was scheduled to start in April, but it is expected to be postponed for two months and start in June.
According to Minister of Tourism and Sports Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn, the introduction of the entry fee will not be in time for the start of April because it will be introduced after the official bulletin is published after the approval of the Cabinet, and it will be introduced in June.
The collected entry fee is to be used as a financial resource for the development and maintenance of tourist destinations. In addition, 50 baht out of the 300 baht collected will be used as accident insurance for foreign travelers, and if a foreign traveler gets injured or sick while staying in Thailand, medical expenses will be paid at up to 500,000 baht for injury and at up to 1,000,000 baht for death.
Immigration restrictions for foreign tourists were relaxed on February 1, and it is expected that many foreign tourists will visit Thailand in near future by Test & Go scheme. Thailand's tourist destinations have been hit hard by the pandemic, leaving many tourist destinations in trouble. It is expected that the immigration entry fee will be used to revitalize tourist destinations in Thailand.
