Thailand’s Meteorological Department issued an updated weather advisory on January 12, 2026, noting continued cold conditions across the northern and northeastern regions. A moderately strong high-pressure system from China continues to spread over upper Thailand, bringing dry air and significantly lower morning temperatures. Areas of dense morning fog are also expected, prompting warnings to motorists and residents to exercise caution.
In contrast, southern Thailand remains under the influence of the northeast monsoon. Rainfall is gradually decreasing, although localized showers are still anticipated in the lower South. The Gulf of Thailand may experience waves reaching up to two meters, particularly during thunderstorms, and small vessels are advised to navigate carefully.
Authorities have also highlighted the risks associated with dry weather conditions, including increased fire hazards and potential health concerns, urging residents in affected regions to practice proper cold-weather protection.

The Ministry of Tourism and Sports (MOTS) of Thailand released statistics on the number of foreign visitors to Thailand in December 2025.
According to data released by MOTS, the number of foreign visitors to Thailand in December 2025 was 3,370,440. This represents a significant increase of 455,630 from November's figure of 2,914,810.
The number of visitors decreased by approximately 589,000 from January to February, approximately 399,000 from February to March, approximately 173,000 from March to April, and approximately 280,000 from April to May. There was a slight increase of 56,000 from May to June, but again a large decrease of approximately 288,000 from June to July, and a similar large decrease of approximately 267,000 from July to August. There was also a large decrease of approximately 348,000 from September to September. However, there was a large increase of 338,000 from September to October. There was also a large increase of 341,000 from October to November. There was also a large increase of 455,000 from November to December. While China, Korea, Japan, Europe, and the United States head into winter, Thailand is heading into high season, and the number of tourists visiting Thailand is steadily increasing.
However, when looking at the number of foreign tourists visiting Thailand for the same month compared to the previous year, the results are as shown below, with decreases compared to the previous year in all months except January.
January: +22.2%, February: -7.0%, March: -8.8%, April: -7.6%, May: -13.9%, June: -15.2%
July: -15.9%, August: -12.8%, September: -11.3%, October: -3.9%, November: -7.5%, December: -7.1%
By country, the number of tourists from China has declined significantly, and given the state of the Chinese economy, there are concerns that this trend will worsen further. The number of tourists from South Korea and Taiwan has also declined significantly. Considering Thailand's tourism industry, I fear that 2026 will be extremely difficult unless we consider welcoming tourists from a variety of countries, not just neighboring Asian countries, but also Europe and the United States.

The Fur Season Escape project has enlisted several prominent partners to support its goals. These include Pet Friendly Thailand, KTC, InterContinental Hua Hin Resort by IHG, ARAK Animal Hospital, and Centara Life Cha Am Beach Resort Hua Hin, all offering special promotions and tailored experiences designed for pet parents.

Thailand’s Ministry of Transport Safety Operations Center reported that public transportation systems nationwide were able to meet travel demand during the first three days of the 2026 New Year holiday, from December 30, 2025, to January 1, 2026. A total of approximately 8.26 million passengers were recorded, representing a 3.9% decrease compared with the same period last year.
Domestic travel accounted for about 7.45 million passengers, with rail services recording the highest usage nationwide. Air travel was most prominent in the central region, while rail remained dominant in the northern and southern regions. Road transport continued to be the primary mode in the northeastern and eastern areas. International public transport served around 809,000 passengers, down 4.6% year on year, alongside lower traffic volumes on major highways and Bangkok expressways.
Extensive safety inspections were carried out across all transport modes. Authorities inspected more than 47,000 buses at 222 checkpoints, with several vehicles ordered to undergo repairs or replacement. Rail inspections found no alcohol or narcotics use among staff, while over 2,700 vessels were checked in the water transport sector, all of which complied with safety standards after corrective actions.
Despite reduced travel volumes, road safety remained a concern. Authorities recorded 684 road accidents during the period, resulting in 91 fatalities, with speeding cited as the leading cause and motorcycles most frequently involved. However, overall accident, injury, and fatality figures declined compared with last year. Rail transport reported six minor incidents with one injury, while no accidents occurred in air or water transport. Additional trains and buses were deployed to support holiday travel, ensuring no passengers were left stranded.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT) has announced the introduction of a new international entry and exit fee, set at 25 baht per passenger per journey. The measure will take effect on 1 February 2026.
The fee was approved by the Civil Aviation Board in December 2025 and will be collected from airline operators based on the number of passengers arriving in or departing from Thailand. Passengers will not be required to pay the fee directly at airports, as it is expected to be incorporated into airline charges.
According to CAAT, the new fee is intended to support regulatory oversight, enhance aviation safety standards, and strengthen the long-term sustainability of civil aviation management in Thailand. Clear guidelines have been established to ensure transparent and consistent collection procedures.
The authority emphasized that the initiative aligns with existing legal frameworks and is expected to reinforce international confidence in Thailand’s aviation system while supporting its role as a key regional aviation hub.
