Toyota Motor Co., Ltd. and Thai CP Group to start hydrogen production business using biogas
On June 26, 2023, Toyota Motor Corporation announced that it will start producing hydrogen using biogas in Thailand from November 2023 in collaboration with Thai conglomerate Charoen Pokpan Group (CP Group).
The move is part of a project to use hydrogen in an effort to decarbonize Thailand's transport sector.
Toyota will install a hydrogen production facility using biogas made from poultry manure at Toyota's Asia-Pacific headquarters in Samut Prakan Province, south of Bangkok. Fertilizer will be provided by poultry farms in Thailand operated by CP Group and others, as well as food waste from the cafeteria at Toyota's regional headquarters.
The hydrogen generator, provided by Japanese engineering firm Mitsubishi Kakoki, is capable of producing 1,000 liters of hydrogen per hour. In addition, Toyota and its trading company Toyota Tsusho will develop systems to compress, store and transport biogas and hydrogen.
