Thailand's MRT Orange Line may delay opening of western section
Thailand's Mass Rapid Transit Authority (MRTA) announced that the eastern section of the MRT Orange Line between Thailand Cultural Center and Minburi is scheduled to open in August 2025, while the western section between Thailand Cultural Center and Taling Chan will open in two years.

However, it expressed concern that the opening of the eastern section of the MRT Orange Line could be delayed due to unresolved legal disputes over the construction of the western extension.

Bangkok Expressway and Metro Plc (BEM) have won a tender to jointly develop the western section and operate trains on both sections, jointly with the government. However, MRTA is currently unable to sign a contract with the successful bidder, BEM, due to several lawsuits challenging the bid.

Civil works on the eastern section of the Orange Line are 98.8% complete and MRTA is currently negotiating with the builder of the eastern section to expedite the completion and handover of the civil works on the eastern section.

Meanwhile, the western section faces a delay of more than two years due to a series of lawsuits triggered by MRTA's cancellation of the first tender. MRTA later issued a statement defending the transparency of the project and the second round of tenders won by BEM.
