Suvarnabhumi Airport calls for early arrival to airport due to surge in users during 2023 Spring Festival
The 2023 Spring Festival (Lunar New Year) is January 22nd. Taiwan will have 10 consecutive holidays from January 20th to January 29th, China will have 9 consecutive holidays from January 21st to January 29th, and Singapore and Malaysia will have four consecutive holidays from January 21st to January 24th. Also, in South Korea, January 22nd is Lunar New Year (Seollal), and it will be a 4-day holiday from January 21st to January 24th. In this way, there are many countries in Thailand's neighboring countries in East and Southeast Asia that celebrate the Lunar New Year as the New Year.

During the 2022 Lunar New Year holiday, most countries had not yet relaxed their COVID-19 infection control measures, and domestic travelers within Thailand was the main customers for the Thai tourism industry.

However, within 2022, countries had gradually eased restrictions related to COVID-19. In many countries, restrictions are now virtually completely lifted. In addition, China, which has had strict regulations, has also eased regulations. Due to this situation, it is expected that many foreign tourists will visit Thailand during the Lunar New Year holidays in 2023.

Airports of Thailand (AOT) announced that the number of travelers from Greater China and South Korea will surge for 13 days from January 16th to 28th due to the Lunar New Year, so it is expected that the number of the traveliers who use Suvarnabhumi Airport in Bangkok will reach average of 140,000 per day.

According to AOT estimates, Suvarnabhumi Airport will operate a total of 10,965 flights (approximately 843 flights per day) over the 13 days, with 1,819,198 passengers (approximately 139,938 per day) using the airport. Of these, 7,635 were international flights, carrying 1,364,202 passengers. On the other hand, there are 3,330 domestic flights and 454,996 passengers.

AOT has announced that it will increase the number of immigration officers during the Lunar New Year holiday period and take measures to speed up immigration processing, on the other hand, they advise passengers on international flights to arrive at the airport at least three hours before departure.

In particular, 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. is the peak time when the number of users is the highest, so if you are boarding a departing flight during this time, it seems better to arrive at the airport with more time to spare. Check-in counters usually open 3 hours before flights, but some airlines will open check-in counters 4 hours before flights during the Lunar New Year holidays to allow boarding procedures. Please pay attention to the information of the airline you will board.
