Thai authorities warn travelers not to bring fresh fruit from abroad
Thailand's Department of Agriculture has warned travelers not to bring fresh fruits and vegetables from abroad into Thailand without an import permit.

Many Thai travelers who have traveled to countries such as Japan where fruits are delicious often return to Thailand with fresh fruits purchased overseas. Persimmons and grapes, for example, are among the fruits customs officials frequently find in the belongings of returning Thais.

In Thailand, under the plant quarantine law of 1964, it is illegal to bring fresh fruit into Thailand without a declaration or permit. If found, authorities will seize the goods in question. The law also provides for penalties, including fines or imprisonment, which can result in fines of up to 20,000 baht, imprisonment of up to one year, or both.

When entering Thailand from abroad, be careful not to bring fresh fruit into Thailand without an application or permit.
