Thai Covid-19 digital certificate to be available in EU
According to Giuseppe Busini, deputy chief of mission for the EU delegation to Thailand, Thailand's Digital Covid-19 Immunity Passport has been connected to the EU's Digital Covid-19 Immunity Passport System.

In addition to Thailand, the European Commission has announced that the EU's Digital Covid-19 Certificate Syste is connected to the Digital Covid-19 Certificate of Montenegro, Taiwan, Tunisia and Uruguay as well.

This will allow the certificate issued by the Ministry of Public Health of Thailand, known as the Vaccine Passport, to be used in the EU under the same conditions as the EU Digital Covid-19 Certificate. According to the Ministry of Public Health, the actual operation will start in January 2022, and the Thailand Digital Health Pass of the MorProm app will be used as a digital Covid-19 certificate.

Thailand also agrees that arriving EU citizens can use the EU Digital Covid-19 Certificate in Thailand as well.

This is expected to make traffic between the EU and Thailand more convenient.

New Year's countdown events of Bangkok Metropolitan were canceled, and events by private sector to be implemented
Amid concerns about a surge in the Omicron variant of the COVID-19 in Thailand, the city of Bangkok has decided to cancel all of its New Year's countdown events. On the other hand, for privately-sponsored events, the New Year's countdown event will be allowed under strict infection control measures.

According to Bangkok Vice Governor Kriengyos Sudlapha, Bangkok City (BMA) will cancel the official New Year's events in Bangkok, noting WHO's advice that countries should put the year-end and New Year celebrations on hold. On the other hand, this decision is not a decision from the Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) of Thailand, but a decision unique to BMA, and CCSA permits privately-sponsored events under the strict infection prevention measures.

The Bangkok City Hall planned an overnight prayer ritual as a New Year's countdown event and a monk's morning alms at Larn Khong Muang, a public place in the city hall near the Giant Swing on New Year's Day. All of these events has been cancelled.

Two major privately-sponsored New Year countdown parties will be held in Bangkok, one at ICONSIAM and the other at CentralWorld. These events are scheduled to be held at this time.

According to the organizers of the event of BMA, it was initially estimated that the countdown event in Bangkok would earn more than 4 billion baht in the fourth quarter, but due to the cancellation of the events, 500 to 600 million baht losses can occur. Many retailers seem to want to prepare a virtual countdown event that doesn't physically get together, but they can't expect much profit compared to actually hosting the event.

Omicron has been reported in many countries to be highly infectious but mild in symptoms, and it has already been proven that a third vaccination with Pfizer, Moderna, or AstraZeneca has the effect of significantly preventing infection and aggravation. On the premise of thorough infection prevention, appropriate government policies are required in the future to minimize the impact on the economy.

Expanded Benjakitti Park in Bangkok, connected to Lumpini Park by elevated sidewalk
Benjakitti Park, which is adjacent to the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center in Bangkok, was built on the site of the Thai Tobacco Corporation's factory in 2004, a total of about 30 hectares of the pond and its surroundings were completed and opened.

Currently, construction is underway to expand the park by about 40 hectares, aiming for completion in April 2022. In addition, an elevated sidewalk and bicycle path with a total length of about 1.6 km connecting Benjakitti Park and Lumpini Park are under construction.

On December 17, Thailand's Prime Minister and Defense Minister Prayut visited the expansion of Benjakitti Park.

Lumpini Park and Benjakitti Park are both parks that can be run by bicycle, and if these two parks are connected by an elevated sidewalk after the expansion work is completed, a cycling road of 6 km per lap will be completed.

Currently, cycling is very popular in Thailand, but cycling on ordinary roads in central Bangkok are extremely dangerous in terms of traffic safety. You must also go near Suvarnabhumi Airport for safe cycling. Many cycling fan are waiting for the completion of the park expansion work.

The number of entrants to Thailand in December exceeded 100,000, and 86% of all entrants entered without quarantine.
Thailand has allowed vaccinated people to enter the country without quarantine since November 1. Currently, Thailand is actively accepting foreign tourists to revive the tourism industry.

According to the data released by the Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) on December 14, the total number of entrants from December 1 to 14 has been 103,263 (50,074 in the same period of November). It has already exceeded 100,000, and it has become clear that it has doubled from the same period of the previous month.

The breakdown by entry type is 88,985 people without quarantine (Test & Go), which is the largest number, accounting for about 86% of the total. Other than that, 11,714 people entered the country using the sandbox program, and 2,736 people entered the country with quarantine (7 to 14 days).

The top 10 by departure country are as follows.
1. Germany (8,739 people)
2. United Kingdom (6,818 people)
3. Russia (4,549 people)
4. UAE (3,966)
5. America (3,705 people)
6. France (3,702 people)
7. Sweden (3,637 people)
8. Singapore (3,260 people)
9. Israel (3,000 people)
10. South Korea (2,813 people)

Regarding the above countries, the number of entrants has increased in almost all countries compared to last month. On the other hand, tourists from Japan are not in the top 10 and the number of Japanese overseas travelers is not increasing because the immigration restrictions on the Japanese side have not been relaxed. In addition, the number of entrants from the United States has halved (7,999 in the same period of November).

In Thailand, a year-end countdown event has been approved by the Thai government. It is expected that the number of foreign tourists entering Thailand, especially from Europe, which is approaching winter, will increase toward the end of the year. It seems to be a very promising situation for the Thai tourism industry.
