The Covid-19 Situation Management Center (CCSA) approved on October 14 the plans to purchase 50,000 courses of Molnupiravir tablets, a Covid-19 oral treatment developed by Merck & Co., Inc. of the United States. This is the world's first oral drug to treat Covid-19.

Molnupiravir has been reported in clinical trials to reduce the risks of hospitalization or death for Covid-19-infected individuals by less than half.

Since Merck announced the development of Molnupiravir, countries around the world, including Australia, Malaysia, South Korea and Taiwan etc, have been struggling to secure this oral drug. The Philippines is also conducting domestic clinical trials of this drug to enable more favorable procurement.

Merck plans to produce 10 million courses of Molnupiravir by the end of 2021.

In Thailand, we plan to procure an additional 127 million doses of Moderna and Chinnopharm vaccines by the end of 2021, in addition to purchasing Monulpilavir.

The CCSA meeting on October 14 approved the reopening of 15 provinces including Bangkok on November 1 for foreign tourists. In the future, Thailand will have to live with Coronavirus by making full use of all effective means such as preventive measures, vaccines, therapeutic drugs, etc. to prevent the spread of reinfection of the COVID-19 in order to revive the damaged economy and tourism industry. Molnupiravir is expected to be a powerful helper.
