Thailand policy interest rate kept at 2.5%

At the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) meeting on August 21, 2024, the Bank of Thailand kept the policy interest rate (overnight repo rate) at 2.5% per year.

Private consumption is expected to slow, while exports are expected to gradually recover. The Bank of Thailand has determined that the current interest rate level is consistent with the economic growth and inflation outlook and promotes macro-financial stability in the long term.

The Thai government has asked the Bank of Thailand to lower interest rates due to the economic slowdown and declining inflation rate, but the Bank of Thailand has not responded so far.
