Every year, a colorful cultural event known as the "Bun Luang and Phi Ta Khon Festival" is held in Dan Sai district, Loei province, northeastern Thailand. The Bun Luang and Phi Ta Khon Festival are among the most popular traditional events in Isan, along with other events such as the Bun Bang Fai Rocket Festival.
The 2024 Bun Luang and Phi Ta Khon Festival is scheduled to take place for three days from July 7 to July 9.
The most famous attraction of Phi Ta Khon is the colorful parade in which locals pose and dance in giant masks carved from coconut tree trunks. A rattan glutinous rice steamer is placed on top of the masks to make them look taller and more grotesque. It is expected that many tourists will come to this small village to watch the colorful masked villagers parade.
