Thailand's "Songkran" is registered as UNESCO's "Intangible Cultural Heritage"
Songkran, Thailand's traditional New Year festival, has been registered on the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

The 18th session of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage was held in Kasane, Republic of Botswana, from 4 to 9 December 2023; this announcement was made on 6 December during the session.

Thailand was registered as UNESCO's "Intangible Cultural Heritage" in 2018 for "Khon, masked dance drama in Thailand", in 2019 for "Nuat Thai, traditional Thai massage", and "Nora, dance drama in Southern Thailand" in 2021. This is the second award given to Dance Drama of Southern Thailand.

Songkran in Thailand is officially recognized as a national holiday for three days from April 13th to 15th, but depending on the location, it may be extended for up to a week.

For tourists, the Songkran Festival is a grand celebration with floating parties held on the streets of Thailand's towns and villages. There is no doubt that this is an attractive time for foreign tourists to visit Thailand.

Suvarnabhumi Airport allows foreigners to use automated gates when departing the country
Foreigners will also be able to use automated gates when departing from Suvarnabhumi Airport.

Until now, use of the automated gates at Suvarnabhumi Airport was limited to Thai passport holders, but from December 15, 2023, foreigners with IC passports will be able to use the automated gates to complete immigration procedures. (However, children and people with disabilities are not eligible).

Currently, 16 automated gates have been installed at Suvarnabhumi Airport, and the capacity of the immigration checkpoint is expected to significantly increase from about 5,000 people per hour to about 12,000 people per hour.

Airports Authority of Thailand (AOT) plans to revamp the automated gate systems at Suvarnabhumi Airport and Don Mueang Airport in July 2024, with 80 automated gate systems at the Suvarnabhumi Airport's departure area, 16 automated gate systems at the immigration area. Total 16 automated gate systems at the immigration area and departure area at Don Mueang Airport.

From December 15, 2023, business hours of entertainment facilities will be extended to 4 a.m. in Bangkok, Phuket, etc.
In Thailand, until now, the legal business hours of entertainment facilities such as restaurants, karaoke parlors, nightclubs, and massage parlors have been restricted to 12:00 a.m. or 2:00 a.m. (varies by industry and region). From April 15th, stores in Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Pattaya, Phuket and Koh Samui will be able to open until 4 a.m. .

Additionally, from January 1, 2024, legal business hours will be extended to 6 a.m. across Thailand.

Thai Airways International to operate Bangkok-Udon Thani route from December 1st, 2023
As we posted on this website the other day, Thai Smile will completely end its operations on December 31, 2023, and all six domestic routes operated by the company will be transferred to its parent company, Thai Airways. International.

As part of this transfer, the route connecting Bangkok and Udon Thani was transferred from Thai Smile to Thai Airways International and began operation from Friday, December 1, 2023.

This route runs 3 round trips a day. The aircraft used is an Airbus A320-200 with two classes: economy class and business class.
